Shiny New Things

A meditation on western intervention in the Pan African marketplace—incorporating inherited aesthetics allegorically linked to capitalism and excess and differences in performing competitive selling practices.

Through the use of video installation, these ad-hoc video installations and accompanying sculptures are a nod to pseudo-religious relics often sold over the internet.

I have used negative space as a means to divide and control the ability to see a whole image being reframed in a new context.

In this series, I reflect on all the dichotomies, presenting a narrative of a nomad amidst a foreign city. By combining the forms that will interrupt the complete picture—or complete the picture—I wish to highlight an anxiety or inversely, a serenity that can be experienced in the urban landscape.
